Santa Ana

After some relaxed days at the beach we’re back on the road again, this time heading to Santa Ana. And we’re welcomed by a very busy bus-terminal situated in the middle of the local market of Santa Ana. A nice contrast after the silent beach days…

Santa Ana is one of the biggest cities in El Salvador and has some nice spots. Here you see La Catedral.

Need a DVD?

Of course, coffee is famous from the region and also very delicious – there’s nothing better than a Cappuccino and Tres Leches in the afternoon!

From Santa Ana two main attractions are very close. One of them are the Ruinas de Tazumal, an old Maya site. It’s not very big, but we have the site to ourselves.

What do you do with a site like this for yourself? Right, silly fotos…

Next to the ruins there was a local cemetary - pretty funky if you compare it to ours!

To other main attraction near Santa Ana is it’s volcano. We have to take an early bus in order to be at the park entrance by 11 am. Unfortunately, our bus breaks down and we’re in the middle of nowhere. Luckily, a gentle farmer takes us and some other tourist on his truck and we arrive in time.

We are given some instructions by the local Tourist Police which accompanies the group.

We are surprised by the size of the group – we’re about 40 to 50 persons! But due to different physical conditions the group stretches and the 2 hours hike is pretty enjoyable – and exhausting!

But again, we are rewarded with great views!

Also, we meet some local Salvadoreños and wow! – they give us a ride back to Santa Ana. The guys are so kind and lovely, we’re amazed!

On the way back to Santa Ana we drive by the beautiful Lago de Coatepeque!

We meet our new friends again in the evening and have a great night out together. Muchas gracias Alan, Marcelo, Cathy y Taco – son geniales!

The next day we head to Ataco on La Ruta de Flores. We take the bus which leaves at the local terminal, I mean local market :-) Lots of "vendedores" with all different stuff to buy...
