We leave Semuc
Champey in the early morning and embark on what would be another long day in the
bus. After nearly 10 hours we finally arrive in Flores, an island which is
situated in Lago Petén Itzá. Pretty nice location!
The reason
to stay in Flores is: Tikal, the ruins of an ancient Maya city. But it’s not
any city – it’s one of the largest archaeological sites and urban centres of the pre-Columbian
Maya civilization! Located in the middle of the jungle, this is a real treat!
Of course,
we take a picture on what was the throne back in the days.
Here we are
at the main plaza. The highly build temples are characteristic for Tikal and a
real eye-catcher.
But the
best part is that one can climb up to the top of the temples - amazing!
As Tikal is
so big, we walk a few kilometres during the day. Luckily, there is some amazing
street food in Flores. Very yummy – especially the desserts!
