So we cross
the border from Panama to Costa Rica – quite easy! We then head straight
to Cahuita where we already have been ten years ago with our friend Adrian. Yes,
it has changed a lot. Well generally spoken for Costa Rica: Finally they got
good roads! Ten years ago Costa Rica was a disaster regarding roads: Bridges
were death-traps and even the Panamericana was a dirt road.
Cahuita has
gotten a lot more modern: instead of wooden huts there are now standing “real”
houses. Many restaurants and bars just made for tourists are popping up. And at
night you find pubs with loud music and big TV screens…
But Cahuita
is still laid-back and close to nature, has fantastic beaches and a great
national park – it’s really enjoyable! Our hostel was just some steps away from
the entrance of the national park of Cahuita. At night the monkeys were so loud
that we thought they’re coming to get us. Again we saw a lot of sloths, three
different kinds of monkeys, agoutis, racoons, fishes, crabs and of course lots
of insects.
In the end,
we stay longer in Cahuita as first planned. We feel too comfy at the hostel and
meet a lot of nice people. We rent some bikes and explore the marvellous
beaches surrounding us or just chill at the beach. Looking for sloths became a
real activity for us. Also, we find some nice local restaurant with great food!
We are now
in the capital of Costa Rica, San José, but just because tomorrow morning (5.30
am!) we take the bus to cross the border at Los Chilles to Nicaragua San Carlos.
Let’s see if we cross the border by a bridge or by a scenic two hours boat
ride. We’ll let you know. Here a short impression from San José…
